The Texoma Junior Rodeo Association (TJRA) is a non-profit 501 C (3) youth association organized to
promote young people 19 years and younger in the sport of rodeo. The association consists of member in
four different age groups: 6 & under, 7-10, 11-14 and 15-19. There are 31 different events held at each
rodeo. Events include: mutton busting, calf riding, jr bull riding, sr bull riding, straight a way barrel racing,
barrel racing, pole bending, goat ribbon pulling, goat tying, chute dogging, steer wrestling, break a way
roping, ribbon roping, tie-down calf roping and team roping.
The TJRA was founded in 1998 in Durant, Oklahoma by a group of dedicated rodeo enthusiasts with the
desire to promote the development of sportsmanship, horsemanship and character in the youth of our
country. The TJRA works diligently to promote these rodeo athletes throughout the Texoma region with
rodeos being held in such towns as Bonham, Texas, Paris, Texas, Durant, Oklahoma, Boswell, Oklahoma,
Hugo, Oklahoma and Tishomingo, Oklahoma just to name a few. Members come from all over the state of
Texas and Oklahoma to compete. The TJRA rodeo year is from January through October with the finals
being held in October of every year. Prize money is given to the fastest times and highest scores in the
TJRA participant’s respective events at each rodeo throughout the year. At the TJRA Finals held each
October, the highest placing (accumulative points throughout the year) contestants receives a trophy
saddle in each event as well as other trophy prizes given to EACH qualified contestant in EACH event.

families spend together is remarkable. From practicing to hauling down the road, there is no other sport
that brings a family closer. There are a lot of hours of family togetherness. In the end, all our kids are
winners by being a part of this association and by having family ties that will last for a life time. The TJRA
is dedicated to support all of its’ members by promoting a fun and competitive atmosphere where
confidence and pride not only take place in the rodeo arena, but in the bigger arena called “LIFE”.
